Press Wash Up

At the end of a pressrun a washup will need to be performed before the next job. The paper will need to be removed from the delivery lift. The plates will need to be removed and stored for future use or reference, and the blankets will need to be cleaned and inspected for wear before the next run.

  • Wash the blankets
  • Clean the ink fountain
  • Wash the impression cylinders
  • Clean the rollers

A color change for the new run will require the inking and dampening system to be washed up. This entails removing all unused ink from the ink fountain with an ink knife and returning the ink to its ink can. The ink knife looks similar to a putty knife being that the ink has about the same consistency as putty. Solvents are then squirted onto the ink fountain roller using a squirt bottle followed by water squirting with a similar squirt bottle for removing the solvent from the rollers. The solvents and water are collected into a drip trough which is removed and its contents discarded.
