Why start here? The continuous downsizing of prepress departments over the past several years has caused there to be fewer people to correct problems in jobs that come to printing companies. This puts more pressure on the designer to create designs with fewer errors and other issues that cause delayed job completion, less than desired print quality and problems. Many designers are not fully aware of the standards that have been set by printing organizations. These standards make it easier to ensure consitant prints and reduce problems that occur before and during printing. Without the knowledge of these standards, problems arise when the printer tries explaining the issue to the designer. Miscommunication between the printer and designer can put strain on the business relationship. The sooner novice designers begin to learn these standards, the better designers they will become more marketable designers by reducing cost through the reduction of time spent on preflighting the job, and considering issues that can prolong the time a job spends at the printer, and using resources more efficiently. These are the designers that companies seek. Novice designers can "start here" to learn some of the basic concepts to consider while designing. Here we focus on three segments of the printing industry: Commercial, Packaging, and Repurposing. There is also a section here that allows a printer to get some insight into the designer. To the left you will see additional useful links to give designers and printers alike deeper understanding of printing standards. Our goal is to allow both the designer and printer to have easy access to printing standards to help bridge the gap between them inturn leading to more effective communication and a better business relationship for all. |
